Sited in the quintessential California landscape of meadow and oaks, this house was renovated so as create strong connections to its surroundings. Linear axes from one end to the other, punctuated by skylights, connect formally separated rooms, creating view corridors through spaces and to the outdoors. On the exterior, white painted wood trellises shade decks and loggias plus filter and modulate the sunlight that enters the house itself. The house captures the clients’ desires for a comfortable, casual home that integrates indoors and outdoors with architecture that is light-filled, airy and spatially rich.
